Most business owners are very capable and knowledgeable about the most technical and detailed aspects of their individual business; however many of them do not have even the most basic grasp of marketing. It is essential that business owners have a basic understanding of marketing in order to help them grow their business into a more profitable one. Here are a few guidelines to help.

Determine and identify the target market and its customers. One way to look at this is to think of the market as a crowd that is starving and in need of your services and product. Then you provide that crowd with the services and products they desire.

A unique selling proposition is one of the more foundations of a marketing plan. As a business owner, you need to know and state what makes you different from your competition. You need to find a market problem to which you can provide a unique solution. For instance, one unique proposition that has recently entered the market is home delivery of groceries via internet order systems, for those people who just don’t have enough to shop.

Understand and determine how your products and services will be distributed. You need to decide if you will use sales people, independent contractors or electronic services. You don’t need to choose one single solution; use multiple choice for a more visible marketing plan.

Use advertising the reach your potential customers. Explore all your options including print and broadcast media, as well as the Internet.

In retail business, there are many factors that play a role in how successful a venture is. Marketing, product, sales force, and location are just a few of these factors. Customer service, however, is a factor that many people do not realize is all encompassing and can quickly impact the bottom line of a business. There are several components of customer service that many over look. Focusing some management efforts in these areas can help improve the overall performance of a retail business.

Reputation Management: while it has always been important to carefully manage a business reputation, today, the Internet has made it even more important. The Internet has changed the way consumers search for business and make decisions about where to spend their money. Carefully monitoring your online reputation and addressing and problems should be an integral part of your customer service plan. Regularly review the Internet for negative postings regarding your business and actively work to address them.

Response Time: Whether you have an online business or a brick and mortar retail store, today’s customers expect fast response to every problem and inquiry. One way to easily improve your overall customer service to implement a response time program aimed improving your response time. Phone calls should be answered by a real person, not a computer, whenever possible. Email responses should be sent in less than a day. Consider adding a live chat function or SMS system to further increase response time.

Implementing these two areas is one way to quickly improve the customer service offered by your retail business.

The economy has strained everyone, even business owners. Today’s business owners are faced with increased costs without a significant increase in sales. In fact, in many cases, sales have actually plummeted. Like everyone, business owners today have to focus their efforts on their budget and what money they are spending. It is through these efforts that many businesses will be able to to weather the current economic storm.

While at first glance controlling your budget may mean cutting laying off employees, there are several other spending areas that should be addressed first. By cutting a budget down to the bare bones in other ways, it may be possible to avoid lay offs. Management should consider the following budget items during this process.

Office Supplies and Printing Expenses: During ‘flush’ times, many business relax their spending guidelines governing these two areas. It can result in massive over spending. Audit supplies in these areas and develop guidelines to ensure money is wasted in this area.

Communication expenses: Today, VOIP technology allows business to effectively communicate without spending a mint on communication fees. Even small business can spend $1200/month on traditional communication services. Consider making a change to VOIP to save money.

Travel Expenses: Make cuts to travel expenses whenever possible. Instead of traveling to meetings, use online meetings and teleconferencing instead. Substantial savings can be made in this area.

Addressing even small budget items can make a difference on the bottom line. Making the changes above may help you save several employees from lay off.

Retail stores no longer rely on ‘old-fashioned’ brick and mortar stores; instead, they have recognized the power the Internet can have over their business. This move towards online business has created positive effects for many business owners. In some cases, an Internet business, in addition to a ‘real life’ business can increase profits without a significant increase in overhead. Unfortunately, one area that may suffer from this move is customer service. Retail business owners who are increasing their online presence must find ways to simultaneously improve the experience of their online shoppers.

Luckily, there are many different tools that can help an online business owner focus on their customer service. Integrating one or more of these tools can significantly impact a customer base.

They will allow you to easily manage your inventory, while simultaneously improving the easy and functionality of your site for your customers.

Contact Us: While almost every website has a ‘Contact Us’ page, not everyone uses proper management techniques to streamline the process. Utilize a program that automatically responds to inquiries while also notifying you. Whenever possible, utilize a chat function to T provide immediate response.

Options: Invest in payment tools that provide your client base with multiple payment options. Ensure that your payment acceptance program offers full security. It is also a good idea to offer a variety of shipping options.

Some companies underestimate the value of a well-trained employee. They tend to think that it is not worth the investment to train and educate those that work for them. They are mistaken. When it comes to customer service, the more informed that your employees are, the more your customer will gain confidence in your product or services, as well as your company.

When an employee has gone through field sales training, they gain the confidence that they need when they present the various talking points for your product or service. They are aware of the features, policies or other needed information in order to help your customers make a more informed choice.

When shopping at a store where the employees know nothing about the clothing, or they are not sure what goes on a chicken sandwich, it really makes the entire company look incompetent. The connection that your employees have with your customers is what makes or breaks your company. If you want your customer service to improve, then be willing to improve the skills of those who are serving your customers.

No matter how big your company grows, it is your customer service that will continue to be the face that your customers see and associate with your products. If you think about those companies that have large franchises, they train every single employee that comes through the door. Even those employees that have previous experience, they train them in the ways that the company does things, and make sure that they are full informed so that they can make less mistakes and serve their customers better.

Don’t be intimidated; you’re in business. Big business. So this is something you have to get used to — learning ‘transactional business law’, a mantra and code every CEO or President must follow for a company. But why is it so important?

Simple: you do not want to get sued for anything! Make sense? Lawsuits are a big deal and cost a ton of money. And if you’re going into business for yourself with a big-name corporation, the idea of losing money’s not a fun one. Grab yourself a Los Angeles business attorney and get right to work, because here’s what you need to know:

Acquisitions, Consolidations, Reorganization, Private Stock, Liquidations, and Mergers

Drafting and Reviews of Contracts

Trademarks, Patents, and Copyrights

State and Federal Laws Compliance

And Many, Many More Concepts to Learn!

In other words…if you’re starting a business, you better know the ins and outs of business law! It’s basically like going to law school! Again…don’t be intimidated. It’s all just lingo and all the necessary steps and measures to take. The challenge is remembering them. Hence that’s why it’s important to have a lawyer with you every step of the way.

Didn’t think starting a business was going to be so complicated? Well, ‘transactional business law’ is complicated; but if you have the right person by your side with the correct resources to keep you from making any wrong step, you should be okay. Just know that you’re the head honcho; so be sure to do the role proud. Your business will depend on it.

Developing a business partnership with an international business is very appealing. Taking your business into a new country means that you have a broader market for your product or services. If you’re thinking of taking your company internationally, there are several things that you need to take into consideration.

One of the first things to think about is whether or not you want to hire an international management consultant. There are many good reasons why this would be a wise business move. The main one being that the consultation company is familiar with how business is done in the country you are interested in. Because they are so knowledgeable, they can save you time, money, and hassle.

If you have located someone in another country that you want to work with, have some frank discussions and build a business plan together. Determine how you are going to finance your business. Which country will you do your banking in? How will the monetary exchange rate affect your business?

Discuss the legalities in both countries that affect your business. Make sure that both of you support the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act enforcement. Establish the fact that your employees will be honest in all of their dealings, too.

Consider doing a background check on the company and the people that you are thinking about partnering with. You will want to make sure that they obey all of the laws of their country.

With your potential partner, discuss your market entry strategy plan. Determine how you are going to promote your product. How will you do lead generation.

When it finally comes time to plan your wedding, it’s very important to find the right jeweler – after all, the bridal rings are one of the key aspects of the event. Well, after the bride that is! However, when you first get a chance to look at all of your choices, from contemporary to classic princess cuts, things can seem a bit overwhelming.

Image via Wikipedia

Fortunately, just like any other business, the perfect jewelry store that specializes in bridal jewelry should be able stand out above the rest because of their excellent attention to details, and truly caring attitude toward your purchase – even if they aren’t the largest retailer in the business. If the sales representative is trying to push you too hard to select an engagement ring that you really don’t want to purchase, just thank them and walk out of the store – you don’t have to buy any rings from that retailer. There are plenty of other jewelers who will respect your spending limit, even if you’re on a budget.Â

While the sheer selection of jewelry retailers and different types of metals, cuts, and sparkling stones can be daunting, it’s easy to narrow down your search for the perfect engagement ring by comparing the customer service of the retailers themselves. If you can’t find the right one in person, you may want to consider an online retailer instead, especially since there will be less pressure, and diverse array of pricing plans to choose from. The best part about doing your engagement shopping online is that you will have a huge selection at the click of a mouse.

One of the best ways that you can increase your profit margin is to keep your business spending low. When you consider that many companies will outsource to save money, you want to look at other ways that you can exceed what your competition is doing.

Some companies have discovered that there is management software that can help your run your business on your own, which eliminates positions within the billing, scheduling and collection departments. Being able to save money this way would definitely increase your bottom line. Many business owners do not want to let employees go, which is definitely a good thing in this economy, so you want to look at the other options that you have as well.

When it comes to overhead costs, you often can lower your outgoing expenses. A business relocation specialist may be what you need to help you discover the best location for your company, where you have the most customers, and can lease space for much less than you are now. There are many companies that have started to share space in order to cut back on their costs. You could consider finding a complimentary business to join up with. A good example of this is the gym, a tanning salon, and a hair removal company all leasing the same building. Their clients often overlap.

If you take the time to go through an internal audit of your expenses, you are sure to find a way that you can cut back. Whether you use a product sourcing specialist, a business relocation consultant, or some new software, there are many solutions available.

There are many ways that you can improve the customer service experience that your customers have. From offering incentives to your employees to having contests and other giveaways for your customers as well. Being able to know what your customers experience is like is important, so that you can determine how to improve it. When you offer end of call surveys, or email a poll to your customers, you can find out about any issues that they may be having, and quickly implement new policies in order to help your customers have a better experience.

When your employees feel motivated by a reward, they will often improve their work ethic. If you have friendly competitions that reward employees for the most happy customer surveys, or the most courteous calls and so on, you help them feel like their efforts are greatly appreciated, as well as make certain that your customers are taken care of.

With the economy that we have today, most companies cannot afford to lose customers. They need to retain them and gain more if possible. Repeat customers are great for free marketing through positive word of mouth. In this day of social media, you want to have a very good reputation. Bad news travels fast.

Whether you are looking to improve customer service, or simply want to find ideas on how to offer incentives to your employees, you are sure to find many great ideas just by asking them what motivates them. By giving your employees the incentives they want, you will get the performance that you do.

When you are looking to buy a new home or move into a new apartment, it can be tough to gather the large sum of money needed for a down payment. When you need to have money for a down payment quickly, consider taking out a loan.

Payday Lending for New Home Buying

A payday loan is a great way to obtain the rest of the money you need to move into your dream home. It’s much easier to get a payday loan than to get a loan from the bank. Most loan companies will not require you to send proof of financial income, and they may not check your credit score. You’ll also be able to receive the loan money faster, which is very helpful when you need to close on a home or move into a new apartment on a specific date. Payday loans are also wonderful for helping you make home improvements. When you move into your new home, you may not have much money left over for painting and decorating.

Obtaining a payday loan could be just what you need to make a quick update to your home, without getting caught up in a huge bank loan process. If you are in the process of completing larger home renovations and find yourself financially short, a payday loan is wonderful for getting quick money to make up the difference needed to complete your project.

When the excitement of a new home or apartment is in jeopardy because you are short a few dollars, don’t let it get you stressed. Simply obtain a payday loan!

Customer service is never an easy part of a job. No matter how nice you might be the difficulties of working with the public are always present and always an issue. The key in most situations is to remain calm and be as friendly as possible. However, all that often goes out the window when it comes to a person who is irate. It happens more often than you might like, but you have to learn how to deal with them in a constructive way. Here are some tips to dealing with them that will serve you well in the long run.

The first thing to do is remember that everyone who screams wants something. They may not be choosing to express it in the best fashion but it’s certainly something they want. So, when it comes to them screaming at you the best advice you can take it to simple ask them what they would like done for them. Usually they are not expecting that sort of response so it gets a big pause but if they are willing to ask for what they want then you could be in a very good place.

The key here is to know what they might be looking for before hand. Once they stop screaming they are going to want to talk about the issues at hand and that could be a potentially good thing for you as the customer service representative. Cut to the chase and you could find yourself on the winning end of the battle.

An accounting audit is the basic review of the financial statements and other accounting documents of a company or organizations. Auditing requires the usage of general auditing and normal audit procedures should be followed. Here are few tips to do basic accounting audit.

First basic step is to know more about the organization or client who requires accounting audit. Standard procedures should be followed for starting an audit and this is normally done by an engagement letter. Next step is to identify all the departments in the organization that requires auditing. The audit team should be selected based on the performance levels and skills required for the particular client.

The company’s business standard should be studied along with the basic policies, accounting standard, legislature according to the department, and past accounting records and observations. This study is called primary analysis and this helps to determine the possible inherent and audit risks. Resources required for auditing should be gathered very early so that one does not have to rely on the clients for the required resources such as laptops and calculators.

First existing account system should be analyzed and this should be explained with the flow charts. With the help of the flow charts, the weakness in the existing system should be examined. Sample transactions can be made to check accuracy, compliancy, and proficiency. The evidence should be gathered by recording and recommendations can be done to improve the accounting efficiency. Audit data and evidence files should be compiled properly. Finally, audit report should be made as this should be produced to the seniors for any future examinations.

Hiring an accountant is a very important step for every business as it grows larger. In the early days, you could keep everything together yourself, but now things are getting too complicated to do that. This is an exciting time, and it’s natural to feel a little overwhelmed. So let’s take a look at what an accountant should be handling for you.

An accountant should be able to file your taxes, but this goes well beyond a pedestrian form 1040EZ. A good accountant knows many tax deductions, and has no problem applying as many of these as they can to benefit your business. Hopefully, your accountant can save you time and return more money than they are paid to your business’s coffers. But it goes far beyond just taxes. An accountant should also be able to track your accounts receivable and payable, and tell the average length of time it takes to collect or disburse funds. While their job is not the same as a controller, your accountant should have a firm grasp on where every penny in your business goes.

When you click on Canada 411 and search for your future accountant, there are many things you need to consider first. For one thing, the train stops in its tracks if the person you talk to is not a CPA, or Certified Public Accountant. This is many steps above a mere tax preparer—that may have been mowing lawns or delivering pizzas before taking a six week course. You want someone who knows accounting and taxes like the back of their hand, and who can justify the price of their retainer.

You took the plunge and became a business owner and you probably entered into an industry in which you had some expertise and most likely some passion. It is possible that you never owned a business before and some of what you are facing is a bit foreign to you. Suddenly you are faced with making decisions for which you might not be properly equipped and are recognizing that you may need a few more answers.

Perhaps your new business, or even an established one, is not reaching the profit levels that you anticipated. You may not have the tools at your disposal to figure out what is going on but you recognize that you need to do something different.

If you are concerned about such things as your personnel, performance, marketing strategies, projections of such things as industry trends and future cultural changes, and other business factors it just might be time to set down and do a business audit..

Now before you let the word audit scare you, we’re not talking about an IRS audit here, but instead an analysis of your business to see where there may be some lost opportunity for improvement. Better business planning results in a better outcome.

A business audit will consist of such things as recognizing the strengths and weaknesses in the business and analyzing alternative strategies for growing the business.

Business audits can be prepared by a hired consultant, and if that is something your budget can handle, it may be your best option. However, there are various computer software programs and online tools that you can use that are helpful as well.

Do you need to hire a real estate professional? Indeed this is something that many businesses, as well as individuals, will need to do. However, managing the questions that you need to ask and what to watch out for can be daunting. Here are some tips to help you along the way.

Always remember why you are hiring a real estate professional. After all, you will need to bring this focus, from the agent, into your business, just as an individual will want to clarify their preferences for the agent in buying a home. Make sure that any special qualifications or skills are well-defined and of high importance during and through your search.

Never overlook the basics. You should take an in-depth look at the professional’s resume, references, and other qualifications that are related to the position. Also, take the same mindset when you are speaking to the applicant’s references, as you want to get a good sense of their work and personal abilities.

Be on the lookout for unique ways to locate valuable real estate professionals for your business. For example, contact property management companies in your area. They will be able to help you with locating a reputable real estate professional – and you can certainly benefit from their services in managing your locations.

Hiring real estate professionals can be much easier with the right paths and questions in the process. Take advantage of these tips as you continue your search. Your company should be able to find valuable and qualified applicants that could improve the company.

The goal of upper management is to make sure that there are the right people in place manage the different aspects of your business. Making the right decision about who you put in charge of your management is not easy. There are plenty of ways to make the wrong move and find yourself on the short end of the stick with someone who isn’t ready or capable of handling it.

So what should you be looking for in relation to a good manager for your business? The truth is that the best attributes of a manage should be there ability to be self motivated. The last thing that you want is a manager who needs a lot of supervision. A good manager should be ready and willing to take on the responsibilities of the office and make sure their employees are doing the same.

A manager should have some type of education and or degree. Experience in the industry is a great advantage. However, education shows they understand dedication, commitment, and discipline. Even if they earned a degree through enrolling in online courses, this still shows discipline, as they do not have an instructor reminding them of deadlines and assignments.

Picking a manager is about picking the person with the right character. Just make sure that the person you pick is someone that you would be willing to work for yourself. If the answer is no, then you should look elsewhere.

When you first get into investing in stocks, you might find that you do not have a lot of money to work with. While this is a fairly easy position to be in, you want to make money with your investments so that you can get on to being wealthier. Of course, the fastest (and admittedly the one you must be the most careful with) is borrowing money to buy stock. In the case of stocks, which pay dividends, you can actually subsidize the interest rate you are paying through the dividend itself. If you choose a stock with a high enough dividend rate, you may not even have to sell any shares for your stock to pay for itself, loan and all. Of course, there is also the decision of whom you can reasonably borrow money from. When it comes to taking on a short-term loan, one great company is GreatPlainsLending.

Of course, there is definitely some risk to be worked around when you invest in this manner. Obviously, you had better understand what you are investing in, so you know that you can get a great deal on the stocks you buy. Also, if you do not understand the business model (or models) of the company whose stock you buy, you might want to either do some more research or move on to something that you do understand. When it comes to borrowing money to buy stock, you cannot be too careful. And no investor should ever be unaware of the inner workings of a business before they take on an ownership interest in it.

GreatPlainsLending will allow you to borrow the amount you feel comfortable with, so you can focus on picking the best possible basket of stocks, instead of trying to focus on saving up a small fortune so that you can invest in the traditional way. After all, in moderation, using some leverage can seriously boost your portfolio.

Owning a business that is failing is hard, but sometimes owning a successful business is even harder. When you own a failing business all you can do is hang on and hope that something good happens. If you are running a successful business there are a number decisions you have to make and each one can hurt your business if you are careful. The biggest worry that a business doing well has is about spending.

Spending is something that every company must go through but it’s not something that every company must do the same way. The problem that many companies going strong have is their spending habits increase and they are not in line with a realistic expectation of what the business can do long term.

The key is that every business budget should be similar to that of a household. Every house, when a budget is at it’s optimum efficiency, has a reserve of money in case a crisis comes up. The other thing that a budget can do is that it only includes new expenses if the long term projection calls for it. It weathers the storm of new money if there is no indication it’s going to become a constant thing.

A business does not spend money it can’t afford no matter how good of a prospect it seems. A good business also does its best to make sure that they are investing to make money work for them on several levels. That’s how a good business works.

A big goal of customer service is to handle problems before they become customer complaints. The last thing you want is for a customer complaining to the corporate office about the incident they had at your place of business. So there is a big need to control the problem before it gets too big. For that there are a couple of things that you can do to make sure you are taking the right steps to have every customer satisfied.

When a customer is upset, just listen. A lot of times people are quick to solve a problem when there is no solution. So even if it’s just slightly upset, listening and letting them talk it through could be just what they need. If they are given the chance to vent they might just talk themselves out of the problem.

The other thing you want to do is to make sure you are sympathetic. Relate it a similar situation. This way they get that you know how they feel. It helps them to know that the person they are talking to understands exactly why they are upset.

The other thing you can do comes with your moral compass. You need to do what’s right. Sometimes what a customer is asking for is a small violation of company policy but it’s the right thing to do to keep the customer. You need to do what’s right even if it means losing a dollar or two. You can’t survive without your customer base.
